Beginners' Questions How can I mark or find a terminal node unconnected
  1. #1

    Hello,

I would like to find or mark all the terminal nodes of a drawing that are not connected to another node.It means that my path is not properly connected to a another path.

I just want to find or mark them without using any extension that would snap or join automaticcaly these nodes because I prefer to do it by myself even in a complex drawing.

    Thank you!

A fast and dirty way might be to add asymmetric markers to the path ends and mid-markers.

This extension may have an option to just mark the nodes, but if it doesn't you could ask the author for a modified version.

    Than you for your suggestion!

I will try to clarify my problem.

    hereby an example of drawing.

I tested different extensions but as soon as the drawing is complex, some wrong connexions appear and it is then difficult to identify and suppress them...

in red the "bad" one and in blue what I would like to get.

I'm aware that it is difficult to realise the connexion to a path without defining a node.

Then, I use the Inkscape extension "add nodes" and I add nodes every mm.

I'm now just looking for a way or extension that will just identify or mark the terminal nodes that are not connected. Then, I will modify my drawing manually.

    Best regards

    Nicolas

Have you considered using a free CAD program for these drawings? CAD programs have tools to perform these operations efficiently.

This is Fusion 360, which has a free version for non-professional use.

I find it quite obvious in Inkscape with Node Tool enabled with solo objects or as compound paths:

    Hello both of you,

    Thank you for your help.

I know how to do it "manually".

I also tested a lot of extension of "automatic snapping", "join path", etc...

I'm 65 years old and fond of marquetry so that I prepare on Inkscape big complex drawings with a lot of small pieces.

if one of you can explain me how to insert a picture on this forum, I can show you (I try to past a picture but it does not work).

One solution is to take time to join slowly and correctly each paths when I draw but it is quite difficult when using a pen and snapping with a pen is not funny...

I had a look on the markers that are fine and I only need a special marker for the end node taht are not connected to anything...

You have already managed to upload an image in reply #3. There´s a paperclip icon to upload content into this forum.

I like that picture. It's an 8-bit graphics throwback and an enormous "paint by numbers" template. Do you plan to trace vectors over every pixelated line? have you already done so? That's a huge task. Inkscape may not be the best solution for this.
