How would you use inkscape to make an image more detailed and 3D for a CNC machine ? I have also downloaded an adobe program but haven't started to play with it yet. Very new to programming and these machines. Any tips are appreciated π
I've not heard of colour splitting. Is the idea that you'd do multiple cuts, using the colour as a way of indicating which cut step the shape would happen in?
Yes, that was my thought, a way to do more with my pictures than just a more 2d cut. I'm definitely not a programmer and new to both inkscape and CNC machines so I'm trying to get comfortable with it. Not sure how to even start with generating 3d shapes yet.
Someone else was doing something that sounds similar to this.Β If you're looking true 3d modelling, you'll need to use something like Blender.Β But let me see if I can find what that other person was doing, then you can describe what you want, if it's anything like this, or something else.
Ok, here's that message.Β She shows a couple of different ways - one where the multiple layers are inset/outset of the main object or design, and the other where the other layers are very different.Β Look at the links in both of Suzy LeeLo's messages:Β https://inkscape.org/forums/cutplot/multi-layered-for-cutting/
Is any of that what you mean?
If so, Inkscape does not have any specific extension or tool for that.Β You just need to learn how your machine works.Β If it can use color to define certain kinds of cutting lines, then yes, you can do it with Inkscape.Β But not all machines use color like that.Β Some machines just need the cutting paths.Β Some machines need gcode.
As a beginner, I would probably suggest something simple, just to start to learn both Inkscape and your machine.Β Just draw a nice star, or cut out some text, or etc.Β
For Inkscape, I usually suggest to jump in with both feet -- right away -- dive right in.Β Grab a tool, click and drag, see what happens.Β You're on your way!

Thank you so much! Been playing around with it and seeing what I can do!
I'm not to sure about CNC, but I would like to know if color separations can be accomplished for applications like Screen printing?
