I have Windows10, Firefox, and Inkscape 1.0.2-2. Tutorial 2 issue is I can move ears, etc., unto dog's face. But when I drag nose onto face it shows ups as a border surrounded by blue arrows? How can I attach screenshots to display in forum? Image posted to my blog https://iweararedhat.blogspot.com/ Thanks, Lucie
Each shape you create in Inkscape has its place with the stack of objects in the drawing, which means, for example, Object A is placed above Object B, which is above Object C etc. This is called the z-order. It sounds complicated, but it's really about how objects show on screen. For example, in the finished dog face on the right in your illustration, the eyes, nose and mouth are all higher in the z-order than the yellow-ish face. To put it simply, they sit above the face in the stacking order, and that's why you can see them.
The reason you can't see the nose is because it's lower in the z-order - it's sitting below the yellow face in the stacking order. The nose is still selected, and that's why you have the selection arrows, but you can't see it because it's underneath the face.
The simplest thing to do is to lower the yellow shape to the bottom, so that everything else can sit on top of it. There's a button on the toolbar to do this, and I've included a screenshot that shows what it looks like. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut PageDown. Each time you press PageDown with an object selected, you lower its place in how objects are stacked.
Final thing... to include an image with your comment, look just under the comment box at the left hand side. There's a little paperclip in a circle (just to the left of the 'Code of Conduct' text). Click that and you can upload a file with your comment.
I'm sorry that I can't respond to your question the why I should. My poor laptop is dying and I am not in a position to maintain its health. Please trust in the knowledge and insight that the Inkscape community has accrued over these many many years. Once I have a new computer, I will be able to be more available to answer your questions. I recommend that you let people know that you're using Roy Torley's Inkscape Tutorial. People only need to google "Inkscape Roy" and an embarrassment of riches should readily appear. In the meantime, hang in there. You have a large community here to support you.
