Heh heh! Hi Ken! Not at all! The balalaika is a distinctively unique instrument with its own history. I am a member of the BDAA, the Balalaika and Domra Association of America and am a virtuoso on the instrument. I do occasionally play it in concert. It's the most challenging instrument that I have ever learned how to play and play well. Consider that it has only three strings, and two are tuned the same! With a little practice, you can generate a lot of noise.
No problem, Ken. No offensive given, no offensive taken. Just a good guffaw. It makes you wonder: do the Russians do everything in three's? Best whimsical wishes, Roy
I'll tell you a quick story. Decades ago I played in a group called Troika Balalaikas. We played for a while in the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. We put a parody together on the theme of Dueling Banjos from the movie Deliverance. We called it Blithering Balalaikas. People thought it was fun and funny. As an aside, I also play the Ukrainian bandura. I expect calls to start coming in for bandura concerts, considering the current history in Eastern Europe. Yes, we do live in interesting times. Stay well, Roy
It's not just for breakfast any more.
