My version is 1.2.2 after 9 dec '22.

The rectangular grid gives crashes with documentproperties>grid>rectangular>new but not with the axonometric grid?

    What am I doiing wrong?

I´d do a Reset Inkscape Preferences restart Inkscape and check if this helps already. If not we need way more info: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/get-good-answers-here/

    Hi Polygon,

I did already a reinstallation without success. I uninstalled Inkscape 1.2.2 again. Before re-reinstalling I want to be sure it's a good working version for the "rectangular grid". Perhaps an earlier version is working better for the "grid function"? Is it so?

In my opinion it's in Inkscape 1.2.2 because axonometric grid doesn't give crashes. Further  information nevertheless: Windows 10 Home, version 22H2, update 14 aug 2022.

Again: Did you reset Inkscape´s Preferences? Inkscape->Preferences->System->Reset Preferences. Restart Inkscape.

    "Did you reset Inkscape´s Preferences?"

I can't as it is still uninstalled. Is it working in your version 1.2.2? If so then I reinstall version 1.2.2 and follow your advise. Or do you have an older version installed with a good working grid function?

I´m on the latest Inkscape 1.2.2 (b0a84865, 2022-12-01) and Rectangular Grid is working as expected. How do you uninstall on you OS? I ask because Inkscape installs on different locations on macOS for instance - just dragging the app into trash+empty is not sufficient.

    Thanks,

before I uninstalled via windows system (not via trash).

Now I have reinstalled 1.2.2 again and will report here about the results after folowing your advises: Inkscape->Preferences->System->Reset Preferences. Restart Inkscape.

OK, after some trial and error I had the desired result, a grid line every 5mm (and a secondary one every mm). But only after I deleted the grids with pixels as units. At certain moments I had both grids with px and mm as units (giving a moiré effect), and the View checkbox for grid reacted sometimes inverse.

Could be there is a conflict between "document properties" via File-menu and the same via Edit-menu? Or is it a conflict between european units (mm) and the monitor units (px)? I calibrated my monitor on real mm dimensions for 100% zoom.  I like diversity, but not so much for menus nor units in doubt.

In each case it helped me, and I only can hope that my remarks can also help others.

    Thanks Polygon.

Ok - glad to hear you´re up and running. I have no clue where the crashes come from in first place. Lots of users having issues after updating - so the "Reset Inkscape Prefs" is a widely used action to solve undefined/unknown conflicts caused by old Preferences vs new releases (from my humble understanding). I can fetch crash-logs on macOS and know how to make bug-reports - but it´s tedious work. Let´s hope your Inkscape is now on the right track. 😅
