    Hi folks

I used to use MicroGrafx Windows Draw 5 and some thing I used a number of times was colour gradients in drawings.  Draw 5 was bit map and Inkscape is vector, so pardon me, I find myself a bit behind the times.

How do I create a circle with a colour fill from yellow at the top graduating to red at the bottom?

Sorry if this sounds a bit basic to some and I may be accused of being old and not keeping up with the times, BUT, it is causing me some grief at the moment as I also have personal time problems (I'm always at work and have little time for proper study.  Can anyone help???

    Regards Asterix

    Hi Asterix,

I'm writing a tutorial series for beginners.  If you are amenable to reading and don't mind a didactic approach to things, then I have a few chapters online that might be relevant to your question about gradients.  You can either Google Inkscape Roy (or Roy Inkscape).  I worked out the SEO so the tutorial always floats to the very top of the listing.  Anyhow, I introduce gradients in Tutorial 06 - Working with Layers, and build upon the technique in Tutorial 11 - Blending Shapes and Colors, Tutorial 13 A-C - Creating Airbrush Effects, Tutorial 14 C - Working with Brush Styling, and there's more in Tutorials 15 A-C and 16 A-C.  The table of contents is at:

    https://roy-torley.github.io/Inkscape_Tutorial/Inkscape_Tutorial_Contents.html

I do go into detail, so please take your time going through everything.  If it answers your questions, then we're all having a nice day!

    Best wishes for the summertide,

    Roy
