Beyond the Basics Default locale

    Hello,

I noticed when I opened up the Language drop-down menu from the Preferences > Interface menu that the list reads English/Australia (en_AU), English/Canada (en_CA), English (en), and English/Great Britain (en_GB). Which leads me to think, "What does 'English (en)' mean?" Of course, it presumably means US English. This is strange considering it is only spoken by 26% of the world's English-speaking population, yet the menu seems to imply that it is some sort of "default" or "standard" for the world. Furthermore, the corresponding locale settings for it are only used by a mere 4% of the world's population, making the labelling doubly inexplicable. If there was such a standard for the world, it would undoubtedly be Oxford English (en_GB_oxendict or simply en) or at least British English/Commonwealth English (en_GB), as variants like Australian English and others are almost indistinguishable from British English. They are used by the remaining 74% of the world's English-speaking population and Oxford English specifically is taught as the standard of English around the world in non-English-speaking countries and is used by practically every international organization such as the UN, ISO, BIPM, etc.

But even more importantly, this subtle implication that US English is somehow the "default" for the world when it is anything but is unfortunately seemingly all too common online and is tiring and borderline offensive. Could the label please at least be changed to what the locale actually is: English/United States (en_US)? In the same way that the Chinese language doesn't assume a default, this will at least make it clear what the user is getting and will put it on an equal footing as it should be.

    Regards.
