I want to go in and make changes to some line widths and other details, but somehow I combined or groupedt so I cannot select individual lines. I have tried "break apart," "ungroup," "change object to paths" and none of them let me select a specific line. Instead it seems to be now composed of severeal objects within which I cannot make changes.
How do I change this so that I can go in and change a specific item (a line width) or change the size of the window in the drawing.
If you do Ctrl a, which is Select All, with the Selection tool enabled, the status bar will tell you what kind of objects are there. In this case, it does not identify any Groups, so you know that ungrouping won't work. In this case, everything is a path, so you must have some compound paths. And that means Break Apart should work.
Select the path (or select all)
Path menu > Break Apart
Deselect everything
And now you should be able to select the individual paths.

Thanks for your help.
I'd check out the tutorials in the Help menu. They should provide a basic understanding of how Inkscape works.
Also check out the manual: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Groups.html
Have a nice day.
