    Hello,

i have a question about the Object-Manager. I have 100 Pathes, this are Districts of a Town. All this Districts I have given Names. So far.

Now i want to see this Districts in alphabetical Order, sort by Name to find them faster (Alphaland, Albo, Barkland, Betamax, City, Detroit, ...and so on). Is it possible?

    Thx for Hints

Edit: I've now sorted them all by hand. Requires tact and good nerves. So the question remains for the next time.

In Blender, for example, objects are automatically listed alphabetically in the Outliner, or by number (depending on the name). Is there a reason Inkscape isn't doing this or is it unfavorable?

In the objects panel, the order in which items are listed actually represents the order in which they are painted in the SVG.

It's not difficult for example to write a script to order them in alphabetical order, but that would change the z-order in the SVG.

Regard an extension to make a list of all objects in alphabetical order by ID or Label, very easy, but a selection cannot be passed back form the extension system to the main gui at present.

OK. I understand that with the order of the drawn objects and the Z order. Although in practice it is not very clear to me why the z-order would be important. I've never used it before. I am only drawing :D
    Or maybe, unconsciously?

Anyway, I see. I rarely have tasks like this city map. It can also be done by hand.

Thank you for the explanation. Greetz

Edit: Ahhhh now. Z-Order. Okay Districts don't overlap. I now understand: raise and lower. Objects that cover others.
