I am installing Inkscape on my Windows 10 system. I read in FAQ under the question "How to open EPS files in Windows" that after installing Inkscape, we must add the path of the software in the environnemental variables of the system. It's write: "Go down up to system variables in the lower panel ...".
But in the suggested tutorial video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH6S-w5DAsY&feature=youtu.be) for this question, it's in the user variables of the upper panel than the path is added. So, is it in the upper or lower panel than we must add the path of the software?
Just joined, apologies for inexperience but cannot open eps files. Not a designer, strictly a newbie, but decided to start learning Inkscape basics. Just downloaded (today) the May 2020 latest 64 bit version.Â
First question: does new version open eps files automatically? Do I need to go through multuple "path" changes or additions to add something? I am not at all knowledgeable enough or comfortable with changing/adding anything in my computer setup (original Surface Pro 4 (2016). Thanks.
Thanks Mijaco. Unfortunately I've done that now three times, I think exactly as instructed in that video, getting the correct 64 bit versions of GS, and including moving the bin and lib up to the top of path, and then starting everything fresh. No luck. As much as I love Inkscape being community based, I don't have the inclination or time for multiple tech learning curves. I'm thinking I have to start my graphics training with a different paid graphics program that does these file outputs automatically. Thanks again.

Hi,
Kindly go through the URL "https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=7&v=iRKTtTw65hw&feature=emb_title". Hope it might helps you.
Hello Christa!
It's in the system variables (lower panel) that it's show in the video that you have indicated to me. I did that and it's working now.
Thank you very much and have a nice day!

Hello Martin,
I installed the last version 1.0 (64 bits) of Inkscape 2 weeks ago, and like it's write in FAQ (https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#how-open-eps-files-windows), I had to add the path of the software in the environnemental variables of the system, after I had installed Ghostscript for Windows (https://www.ghostscript.com/download.html). The best way for me to learn how to do that is in following the video instructions that Christa has suggested here earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=7&v=iRKTtTw65hw&feature=emb_title.
Good luck!
