I am trying to move 2 selected nodes towards each other symmetrically.
After selecting both of them, they move together to the same side (say left or right or up) but I want them to move towards each other to create a mirror effect without destroying. I saw this in some Youtube videos (without explanations). Holding Shift also doesn't work in my case.
With the Node tool [n], go to the tool control bar and activate [Show transformation handles]. Select nodes with [click-drag] or [click] a segment or point to a node and [shift-click] or [scroll-wheel] or [ctrl-scroll-wheel]. Now you can move the handles with [click-drag]. In your case, [shift+ctrl+click-drag] from a corner handle to move nodes symmetrically around the centre point. Try all the combinations of handles and modifier keys [shift+] or [ctrl+] or [shift+ctrl+] or [alt+] or [shift+alt+].
There are keyboard shortcuts too. Select your nodes then [,] and [.] or [<] and [>] will move them together or apart. The [alt+] modifier applies smaller steps. Use the keyboard to rotate node selections using [ [ ] and [ ] ]. Hover the pointer over one of the nodes to lock its position.

What am I missing?
Ctrl+alt will allow to move nodes along the (straight) Path and beyond the end of the stroke.
