Hello, I am trying to find the width and height of my subject but I only find W. I see H after clicking on the right small inverted triangle which is not convenient. I also sometimes find the correct size of W but a completely different number on H. On my older Inkscape version, this did not happen. Please check screen print. Thank you so much.
I tried simulating your 1024x768 display on my 4K TV. I set toolbars in Inkscape 1.1 to smaller and used the Minwaita-Inkscape Theme. Then I Run Inkscape 1.1 with GTK Inspector and changed the font size to 8 (default is 9). (\inkscape-1.1-x64\inkscape\Run Inkscape with GTK Inspector.bat) Is this closer to the look you want for your display?
Thank you very much for your help but I still can't solve the problem. And, by the way, I have used inkscape for the last two years and this is the first time I find this issue. Where can I find "toolbars" I didn't find them anywhere. I don't want to appear as a fool but since it is a change from previous Inkscape versions, I have found different problems that I can't solve. It is very important to find out H and W on the drawings I prepare for laser cutting and I lost this possibility. Again, I appreciate your help.
And do you think that if i install earlier versions of the software, o solve the problem?
Please check the screenprint of the problem I'm having. These are parts for a balsa model airplane kit of the Beechcraft Bonanza. No H and W appear, neither the units changing possibility. This is hidden and not practical. I NEED to know how many centimeters of milimeters have each H and W in order to adapt the sheet to my laser cutter. Again, I appreciate your help
Nonetheless I´d like to have a screenshot of either the actual screen with running Inkscape or a more optimised one on a small screen for the future and to make sure we´re looking at the same Inkscape set-up. (Even the smallest MacBookAir runs 2560-by-1600px at 13,3" display - which can be scaled of course.)
Screenshots by Eduardo are 1024x768. They are using Win 10.
Even with the icons set to smallest in Inkscape's preferences, the commands bar is too long for all the spin-boxes to show (due to the new UI). I have tested this by scaling the Inkscape window to 1024x768.

Like I said in my previous post, to solve this on a 1024x768 monitor.
I am so sorry that I am not an expert concerning Inkscape handling with all its issues and terms only known by expert chaps who know very deeply the software. I am just average user.
Hello again. Please find a screen print and a photo of my Samsung monitor. They speak for themselves. I'm desperate I need to finish a model airplane kit and can't use my Inkscape properly.
Hello again. Please find a screen print and a photo of my Samsung monitor. They speak for themselves. I'm desperate I need to finish a model airplane kit and can't use my Inkscape properly.
Yes, they speak for themselves. You are not using Inkscape version 1.1.
Please check another screenprint. If it is impossible to restore both H and W, how can I measure the exact size of the part? The numbers shown on X and Y DO NOT coincide que the real size. I've checked this with the printed plan of the wing. Also, what are those + and - signs appearing next to X and Y.? Finally, when opening the top right little arrow H appears but it doesn't show the actual size. And it shows three options that I have no idea what do they show.
What do you mean by "scaling" and "placement"? All I need to know is the size, for example, a sheet balsa of 7 x 20 centimeters. Impossible to find out?
So they are not useful for my needs. It seems that I will have to give up since there is no way to showing H and W as it used to be.
Simply try out "+" and "-" or other values to see what happens. When your window is till un-complete you can go Object->Transform… Scale and change from % to mm and the size will be displayed at Width+Height.
By using object, transform etc. I finally found out the size of the canvas. Thanks a lot. However, it is not practical, but at least I can finally find what I need. I would have preferred to have it as it used to be on the tools bar.
Yes, but I've tried to change font size unsuccessfully. And I think you are right stating that the problem is my monitor for one reason or another. I'm taking my PC and monitor to my PC technician to see if the problem can be solved. I appreciate so much your good will and help. I will tell you on as soon as I solve the problem.
I ran into the exact same issue as op. My neighbour asked if I could help him fix this. Initially I suggested it might be time for a hardware uppgrade, but he wasn't ready for that approach.
Found this thread and @Aero's directions, downloaded the attached file style.css, dropped it into the described folder, restarted Inkscape, problem solved. Thanks @Aero!!!
I tried to install the style.css but it is not possible. No way of doing it. This week I'll have a re-installation of my Windows 10, I have had lots of wrong issues and problems with this installation so I think that reinstalling it might solve the problem. I'll let you know my final results.
Hello my dear friends. Just a quick note to tell you that I solved the problem, Now I can see both H and W and I'm doing my works perfectly. My model airplane kits will be in production once again.
What was the solution? Very easy: Eliminate the latest version of Inkscape and install the 0.92 version. Nice, clear, more logical and it shows all the windows and terms I need. My PC was checked and it is fine. Thanks to you for all the good will you showed to me and all possible solutions. I do appreiate how much help you tried to give me. Keep safe and all the very best EDUARDO
Hello my friends. Hoe you are all staying safe- I already got my two jabs so I can be just a tiny bit less careful, always using my mask.
I have a question: Can you please tell me why when I have a model airplane plan in JPEG, as I always have them, with 150dpi, when I open it in Inkscape for vectorizing parts, it appears about 10 times larger. This means I have to waste a lot of time resizing it so I can get accurate parts for the model size I original have the plan. How can I solve this?
This is what I get when I open preferences. My Inkscape is 0.92 version. I cannot use the 1.1 because it doesn't show the H and W when I am trying to determine the correct size.

I'd use the Preferences to make the icons smaller. More controls will be seen. The monitor resolution may also need to be increased.
Thank you very much. Can you please tell me how to do it in "preferences" and also, I need to change Inkscape language to English. It is in Spanish.
Maybe this:
And this...
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Language changed successfully but I still can't have the W and H windows. Please help me.
In the image above, please note:
Make those changes if not set already, and re-launch Inkscape.
Are you probably looking for these?

Can we have a screenshot from your entirely Inkscape window please?
The short answer is: earlier versions had smaller numeric boxes. Look at the space after the trailing digits.
This is a known issue and 1024x768 might not show all the controls.
Raising the windows' screen resolution can help.

I would increase the screen resolution in Windows. 1024x768 is very low resolution.
Nonetheless I´d like to have a screenshot of either the actual screen with running Inkscape or a more optimised one on a small screen for the future and to make sure we´re looking at the same Inkscape set-up. I am having problems with my SAMSUNG monitor. Check please the screenprint. Perhaps this is my problem wirh Inkscape? Can anybody help me to solve it?
Please read the instructions from @Aero above.
Please, where can I find "Tool bars"? What is and where can I find "Minwaita-Inkscape"? and where can I find style .css?

Yes, they speak for themselves. You are not using Inkscape version 1.1.
Download latest version here. https://inkscape.org/release/
. I will uninstall the one I have a install the one you sent me and tell you my results. Thanks
Unfortunately, the problem persists. No "H" I just don't understand. I appreciate your patience with me.

These are for "scaling" and "placement" purposes. The lock-icon is for proportional scaling.
What do you mean by "scaling" and "placement"? All I need to know is the size, for example, a sheet balsa of 7 x 20 centimeters. Impossible to find out?
So they are not useful for my needs. It seems that I will have to give up since there is no way to showing H and W as it used to be.
You skipped step 2 and 4. Your font-size is still 9, should be 8.
Simply try out "+" and "-" or other values to see what happens. When your window is till un-complete you can go Object->Transform… Scale and change from % to mm and the size will be displayed at Width+Height.

As explained a few times already it seems your display resolution isn´t capable of showing the "H" value because of the font size.

In Preferences->Imported Images you can adjust "Default import resolution" to your liking.
Thanks. I'll try it.
Please help me, There is no "imported images" under "preferences"
Look a second time please:
This is what I get when I open preferences. My Inkscape is 0.92 version. I cannot use the 1.1 because it doesn't show the H and W when I am trying to determine the correct size.
I´m on 1.1 and won´t go back; what is under "Bitmaps"? Maybe this is a new feature - don´t know.
This is what I found on Bitmaps. Will it help?
There you have it:
