Not sure if this was a Beginners Question. But since it is the first time I am using the feature, I figured it might be.
Objective: What I wanted to do, was select the different objects by color then group them, using the "Select the Same" feature.
I tried different variations, but nothing seems to be working, as in a selection showing. If you are familiar with this feature can you give me a hand, figuring out what I am not doing correctly. Better yet, is sending a link to a good tutorial on the subject. Here is the Graphic I was playing with
Hi awolf, what steps are you taking? Can you detail out what you're doing, so we can try to figure out the problem?
I tricked clicking on the yellow text at the bottom, then going to Edit / Select Same / Fill Colour, and all yellow objects are selected (I can see the small dashed lines around the various objects). I can now group these. It works with the red and blue colours too. Obviously the greens are different shades, so didn't try these.
There isn't an awful lot of help in the official tutorial about this tool, but there's something here... (scroll down to the bottom, just above 'Conclusion')
I opened your LapercORN.svg in Inkscape 1.0.2-2 (7zip version, Win 10) and Affinity designer.
Select by colour worked as expected in both applications.
The stacking order after grouping the dark green selection was different. Inkscape changed the appearance of the design by placing the dark green on top of the yellow.

If you can explain exactly what steps you're taking, and where it's failing, I'm sure we can work out the problem.
It should be as simple as right clicking and choosing Select>same colour.
However, I found doing that on a green clover caused the yellow letters to be selected as well.
I had a look at the svg code itself.
A lot of the elements have an inline style entry of color:#000000;
Instead of just fill or stroke.
I copied and pasted everything to a new blank inkscape document, and it corrected itself.
Not sure where the color:#000000; came from ? Was this image made exclusively in Inkscape ?
