Beginners' Questions Pencil tool's stroke varies with zoom, how to keep it constant?

When I use the freehand pencil tool, I will draw a stroke, then zoom in, and when I draw another stroke, the new stroke is much thinner than the previous stroke's width. I want to keep the stroke width constant no matter how much I zoom in. I searched and some people who had this problem said to go to preferences and set the width to be an absolute value, but when I go to preferences>tools>pencil, I don't see a "set to absolute value" option. I'm working on Inkscape 1.2 on macOS Monterey version 12.3.1. TIA

Hi, Here is a small visual guide. To get to the preferences, double click on the tool you are using

Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to record. However, I tried doing exactly what you did, and I don't think it worked. I noticed when you clicked "take from selection", the stroke changed to the color of the previous stroke (yellow). However, when I clicked "take from selection", the stroke stays as "None". I'm not sure what I'm dong wrong here. I attached a screen recording of what I did.

EDIT: apparently my file didn't attach because my screen recording was too big, I'll try to take another one and upload that

Note that when you went to the preferences you had fill in black and stroke in none. You have to look at the status bar to see that it is properly configured. First you set the line and then go to preferences and check Take from the selection.

Ok it's fixed now! At first I tried setting the line and changing the stroke but it wouldn't let me adjust the stroke. Each time I drew a new line it automatically put fill in black and stroke in none. I reset the preferences to default and then closed the program, then opened it up again, and this time when I drew a line it automatically put stroke in black, fill in none, and let me adjust the stroke settings. I then selected take from selection in preferences and it works now! Thank you so much for your help!!
