I'm in the process of vectorizing a logo. I've traced the logo and now I'm polishing the trace. I'm using Inkscape 1.3
I'm hitting a couple of issues that are frustrating and seem really weird.
For starters, the logo is mostly text. So the curves aren't contiguous: there are gaps between them. Despite that, I can't seperate the paths. In the object that is the outcome of the trace, if I select any one letter, all the letters become selected. Doing 'ungroup' doesn't change this.
But this here is where I'm really stuck: Some of the segments between nodes cannot be manipulated.
Specifically: where I have a segment between two nodes, and with the node tool selected, I should be able to drag the segment to reshape it. In some instances I can't do this.
In these instances, the nodes on each side of the segment do not have a handle. In some instances of this, the nodes have a single handle on the edge that isn't facing the segment that can't be manipulated.
Looking at the UI, I do see the button with the label 'add curve handle'. I tried to select the problem nodes and doing 'add curve handle', but this operation didn't add curve handles to the nodes.
So how do I fix this? It's incredibly frustrating.
I thought that one possible solution might be to add a new node in that segment. But that also seems to be impossible! If I click on the segment and then click on the 'add node' button, nothing happens.
The gaps between the nodes are just that, gaps. In node edit mode, I'd select the two nodes and use the button in the controls: Join nodes with segment.

Is my segment cursed?
Well... cursed is up to you.

Sorry, how do I find the 'Join nodes with segment' button?
I've selected the node tool and I'm hunting around the UI, but I can't find that button.
Maybe this:
That does it!
Thank you!
Much easier to find the gaps with View->Display mode:Outline or applying a stroke with different color for the editing stage.
