When creating a custom marker the object disappears when when you hit Object to Marker

Can you disable this behaviour? I know I can duplicate it before turning it into a marker, but I forgot to do that today and now I need the object back do do other things with it.

Is there a way to retrieve the object that was converted to a marker before it disappeared? I tried Edit on canvas > Ctrl+C but it doesn't work. I also read about using Stroke to Path and then splitting it and until I get to the original object, but surely there is a more simple way, since it is already in the svg file.

    Right?

    1. Disable behavior ? I don't think there is such an option. Global preferences > Behavior > Markers doesn't display this option. To turn an object to marker, I'd make a clone of it first then do object to marker on the clone : you keep the original object and your marker can still be edited by editing the original object.

    2. As you described, If you "lost" the original, you can draw an horizontal path with bezier curve set a start marker, then do stroke to path : your path with markers will be turned into a group containing the horizontal path (renamed), and another group containing your former marker : it is now an object again.

    3. Another way (more complex) is to open XML editor, browse > defs, find your marker, click on the triangle left to it to expand its content. You then can select its contents, click on "duplicate node" and once duplicated, drag and drop them into the node of the appropriate layer. Solution 2 is safer.

    Hope this helps.
