Too late...I didn´t do that, I went for downloading the exefile instead, and used that instead of the msi installer, that worked. odd thing, I posted that before in here, but it seems that post didn´t make it through.
The .exe and .msi installers should include a warning box in the beginning of the install process, containing the bold text "⚠before running this installer, please manually uninstall all previous versions of Inkscape".
@Polygon you're missing my point. My point was that nobody see that small print (below the download icons, so everyone clicks fast and does not read below). The goal of my message was the request that the source code for the .exe and .msi installers add a new dialogue window as the first screen of the installer, that states in big bold, "⚠" title="" data-toggle="emojitip" data-original-title=":warning:" id="inline_53782" src="https://media.inkscape.org/static/forums/images/loader.gif" />before running this installer, please manually uninstall all previous versions of Inkscape".
Have you been through this thread? Have you deleted former version of Inkscape completely before installing 1.4? Some said the .exe would work in first place than the msi.
UhOh... I'm watching the installation running and it appears that it is installing version 1.3... at least that is what the post next to the Inkscape Logo at the top of the installation window.
I know during the uninstall operation, it showed version 1.4 as it was uninstalling...?
Installation of inkscape 1.4 stable version failed, I get errors of this missing dll file, so how to fix?
liblcms2-2.dll
Michael
Please deinstall Inkscape first - then install 1.4

It seems not clear where the culprit is. Glad you got it working though.
Missing dll :) when installing from msi installer without uninstalling the previous version it seems :)
while exe installer works.

Weird double post

@jmckenna Who reads the small print?

I know exactly what you mean - but honestly: good chance this warning would be overlooked either. 😉
... and if you mean it seriously this is not the place for such a recommendation.
Good morning...
InkScape quit working.
I’ve been using it now for a couple months.
I made a $50.00 donation last week and maybe it was not enough??
LOL
Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
This is the error message I receive when I click on the Inkscape Taskbar Icon:
[The code execution cannot proceed because lib lcms2-2.dll was not found.
Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.]
Went to Uninstall so I could reinstall but the computer freezesUp and just sits there.
Tried downloading and installing latest version but it tells me “a later version is already installed”.
Catch22?
Tried the ‘Repair’ option but it freezesUp on me in that, as well…
Suggestions anyone??
Thank you, kindly!

Can´t proof as I´m on macOS exclusively.
Good morning...
Just went in and attempted to uninstall again... it appears to have worked this time.
It is reinstalling now but has not finished yet.
KeepYa posted and THANK YOU, KINDLY... for responding so fast. This is encouraging since I wasn't sure if anyone would respond at all!

Not sure whutUp??
James
I hope it will work out as Windows is not my cup of tea and I just can recommend from what I read in the Forums and Chat rooms.
So... Inkscape is now running and in the 'About Inkscape' menu selection, it is showing that version 1.3.2 is now running...?
And this is from the newest/latest version download from the website...??
James
From here https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.4/ it goes to here: https://inkscape.org/release/1.4/windows/64-bit/ and then for the exe it says "inkscape-1.4_2024-10-11_86a8ad7-x64.exe" after download.
Thank you, very much!
