Beginners' Questions Drawing with Fillings Error?

    Hello everybody,

I've installed Inkscape a view days ago and I must say I quite successfully got some nice graphics done. Unfortunately, it I keep running into problems with some of the drawing tools. They often fill areas with colors and I have no I idea how to properly turn it off.

Picture 1. After trying to draw a line I get a weird shape in a "fill" color. I found out that it has something to do with "path effect" -> "pattern along path". I then deselect it and even erase it. The latter sometimes leads to the program crashing. How can I get rid of this configuration so that I do not always have to go through this procedure?

Picture 2 and 3. After removing "pattern along path" I often still get fills as you can see in the two next pictures. It is really annoying. How can I turn it off permanently ? My current workaround is to set the filling color to "none" and only use the stroke paint option.

I have even tried reinstalling Inkscape, but it didn't help.

    Thank you.

    Regards

PS: The pictures got mixed up. Number 1 is the last in the order.

When using bezier tool or pencil tool, check if Shape is set to None, to avoid getting paths with a Pattern along path Path effect.

To remove a path effect you did by mistake, select the path with the path effect, open LPE's panel (Ctrl+& or Path > Path effects), and click on trash icon.
