I am searching for a feature to go through all layers. (I suggest a checkbox "see only current layer") First I set visibility for each layer. Then with the new feature I can only see the current layer to get an overview, what is on each layer.
Well I'd suggest to make all layers invisible at once and toggle on just the one of interest - if this makes sense. Isn't there an entry in the context menu already? Can't check right now.
@Umako yes a browse function would be good. "Show/Hide other Layers" is static. Where your "Show only current layer" follows the active layer allowing you see different layers with a single click in the list. I use the same function in another application and it's really useful when you have lots of overlapping objects in the way.
There is also a need for a "Outline other Layers" where the current layer is shown in full colour and the other layers are in Outline mode. Which is helpful when rendering slows down with blurs and filters. Or you are working behind objects but you still need to know where they are.
I suggest these details to add to the requirement:
The Layer List gets new checkboxes.
New checkbox "See Current Layer only" that hides all but the layer is currently active. Each layers Eye icon remain active, so a layer can be switched on and override the new mode.
If the user sets a new layer as active, the new mode shows that layer, and hides all the others.
Any layer that was manually changed remains shown.
New radio button "Outline". It sets all other layers into Outline Display Mode. Can be activated only if "See Current Layer" is active.
New checkbox "Lock". It locks all other layers apart from the current active layer. Can be activated only if "See Current Layer" is active.
These cover the uses cases:
Browse. The user want to see what is in the drawing, and how the layers have been organised.
Working. When the working layer is behind other layers.
Performance. To reduce render delays by hiding layers with filters or blurs.
I'd like to ask if this has actually been implemented yet, because such a feature would be really helpful with me for making lip-sync mouths (so that I can only see 1 mouth at a time

You are right about context-menu: "Show/hide other Layers"
tnx

Ian, you encouraged me to post the "current layer issue" at gitlab.

still glad to receive more feedbacks
The feature is called "Solo Layer"

@ZV1LLE, feel free to add your interest to the linked report/request https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/4858

More documented interest raises the priority of the request.
