I just combined two paths and tried to apply the "Interpolate sub-paths" Path Effect... which ended with a "An exception occured during execution of the path effect".
I tried to replicate the whole manipulation within the same document with two new objects :
- create an object > duplicate the object > use the handle to modify it > convert both objects to path > combine both paths > apply said path effect.
This time, it works perfectly.
But when I try on two new objects, same message.
After a few other trials, this seems to be random.
What am I missing ?
I work with Inkscape 1.3.2 on a Windows 10 Education OS.
If you don't need the live path editing, I'd try using Extension>Generate from Path>Interpolate between paths. This might work better and save the step of combining the paths.

Thanks ! That worked perfectly.
(I think I don't quite understand what you call "the live path editing", so I don't know (yet) if I need it or not 😅)
Anyway, that should do the trick for this project, thanks again !
In brief, Path Effects allow modifications in the original path(s), and the effect will update.
In contrast, Extensions are generally run once, and must be re-run after modifying any original paths.
Ok, I did some tests and clearly see the difference now.
I'll definitely test a bit further, as this opens some new possibilities 🤩
