Tyler, this is the file I referenced regarding the inability to recompose a complex trace bitmap without registration marks.  To save users a lot of time, it would be best if this function were integrated into the Trace Bitmap task itself.  Just add a tick box - add register.  This function needs to serve both the XY and Z orders.

I also provided an image set showing that the align commands will respond to the extents of a filter rather than the object the filter is applied to.

I'm not sure how this would be implemented in the svg file.

It's fairly easy to create a group for each object, and insert a rectangle the same size as the original image into it.

Otherwise would require some kind of inkscape namespace attribute to support it ? ( like inkscape:groupmode="layer" etc)

How did you see the registration marks being associated with each object ?

Do you know what registration marks are and how they are used?

I think so, we have them on cereal boxes in the UK from the printing process.

Those are probably not registration marks.  They probably relate to bleeds and printing.  Bleed indicators are not registers.

Google woodblock printmaking and the construction of Ukiyo-e. How do artists get 20 color prints to align precisely within one image?  Registration marks.  Each block for each color has a commonly located mark outside the image.  All of the color prints metric off that mark.

In the case of Inkscape, the trace bitmap function needs to auto apply a common registration mark to each of the layers it generates as it generates them.  Say there are eight layers.  The software needs to add 8 stacked registration marks - one XY registration mark to each layer in a grouped association with it. The artist needs to be able to choose to ungroup the registration marks when the composition is complete.

The software also needs to add a Z stack registration mark for each layer in the stack.  This item would be placed so that the artist can reassemble the Z stack sequence after modification.

    From this page : https://art-design-glossary.musabi.ac.jp/registration-marks/

It looks like the registration marks for Ukiyo-e where in the wood block itself.

Relief Printer here: Moku Hanga (image shows some of my tools; registration chisels), lino as well as intaglio, screen you name it:

As for registration marks you can add an extra layer containing these respecting your "washi" paper size and location and export this layer with one color layer at the time by making the others invisible. I prefer this method as I have control over the setting, type and placement. Not saying it can´t be useful - but seems a whole new add-on to me and not so easy to implement into the auto-trace function of Inkscape. Manual printing seems a niche feature to me even though it´s what I´ve been doing with Inkscape since 2004. Just my 2¢.

Objects are in register after the trace operation. I see no need.
