This tip answers a question I spotted in Inkscape user chat.  How do you select all the clones of a single parent shape?

First select one of the clones then [shift+d] selects the parent object.
Open the XML editor [shift+ctrl+x].  Go to the id property and copy the attribute text (e.g. "parent_id").
Open the find dialog [ctrl+f] and paste the copied text into the Find: box.
    Select these checkboxes:
      Search in > Properties
Options > Properties > Attribute value
Options > Object types > Clones
    Finally click the [Find] button.

This selects all the clones that include "parent_id" in their attributes.  You can also use the [Replace] button to change this attribute and link the selected clones to a different parent.
