Hello everyone I am very new to Inkscape. I am trying to build a guitar with my shaper origin. That being said, my file has to be the exact measurements as is on the shaper website. When I attempt to upload a file from the shaper website onto Inkscape, it shrinks. If I upload it directly onto my shaper from the shaper website, the file is the correct size. I have to use Inkscape because I need to make a few modifications before cutting. Does anyone know how to import an svg file into Inkscape and it stay exactly the same size?
Consider also to measure a specific location, ideally a straight line segment, on both drawings. If there's a metric to Imperial conversion involved, you'll see a factor difference as a multiple of 2.54 or 25.4 or similar. You'd then lock the aspect ratio in Inkscape and increase the percentage / scale by a similar factor, that is 254% or 2540% or similar. The reverse can be true, by which I mean you'll see factor differences of 1 over 2.54 or 1 over 25.4 when you do the math.
"Strat_FRONT_BODY.svg" is the file directly from the shaper website. "VLleftystrat.svg" is the file when I uploaded it in Inkscape. I flipped it horizontally because I need it to be a left handed guitar. I don't know how to compare the two files and measure both of them because the only way that I can see any dimensions is on Inkscape. I will try to play around with percentages for the time being.
Ok, the original file shows it was made in Illustrator, which usually defaults svg exports to 72ppi. This is supported by the guitar body in Inkscape indicating 13.914". Inkscape is 96ppi.
If I just bought Adobe Illustrator and imported it would I still have the same problem?
Inkscape can be configured to use 72 DPI for CSS pixels (same as PostScript points) just like Illustrator do. This will let you open SVG files from Illustrator in Inkscape at the correct scale.
In the configuration file inkscape\share\inkscape\ui\units.xml, replace the factor 1.00 in line 14 with factor 1.333333333333333 (same as in line 21).

The shaper file is likely set to another scale. If you can share the file and let us know the proper dimensions, we might find an easy solution.

The drawing found on the web shows the body measuring about 18": https://i.imgur.com/qA4JD.jpg.
I'd probably set the scale in the document properties to 0.75, but there must be a Shaper forum that discusses this.

If the Inkscape imported file is smaller than the "real" size, wouldn't the scale be set to 96 / 72 = 1.3333~ ?
I opened the original file in Adobe Illustrator and the scale was also way off, but in a different way. See attached pic.
It works the opposite direction in Document Properties scaling: 0.75 user-units per pixel will make the objects larger by 1.33333.

The standard configuration file looks like this.
