Hello everyone, how are you? I hope that you are doing fine. I am having problems with the text tool. When I write a paragraph, the space between lines misbehaves. The second line has a distance from the first line, but, the third line has a different distance from the second line, farther than the distance between line 1 and 2. So, the paragraph doesn't have consistency. Has anybody experience this issue? How can I fix it?
could you start off by telling us exactly what version of Inkscape you're using? This might help a lot in figuring out if it's a bug or a configuration thing.
If you could share a file in this forum, we could also have a look if we have the same behavior as you. If we do, we can have a look what causes it.
Does this problem happen with all fonts, or only with a specific font?
Finally: does this strange effect also occur when you open the file in your browser? Or only in Inkscape?
Sorry for the misunderstanding... I'm just a volunteer like you (and I think almost everyone in this community). Could you share the link to the issue?
I understand the problem. But an SVG file also contains other code inside. It's mostly that that I need.
Did you try saving the SVG file and opening it in your browser? (chrome, firefox, etc...)
I explained in the previous message that the ouput is not the same if I open the file with inkscape or in a browser:
In Inkscape, the fisrt and second line are ok, the third and fourth line are wrong. With the browser, the second line is wrong, the third and fourth line are correct.
Hello everybody, how are you? Sorry for not replying before, I was at work. I am using the last version of Inskcape on Manjaro KDE. I have uploaded a screenshot of the document file I was working with. When I saved the file, the text was okay, but when I re-opened it, I found that the text was moved. I also wrote in two different fonts and it has the same behavior. I opened the svg file on the web-browser (screenshot attachted) and it is the same.
Have you tried already with the affected text Text->Remove Manual Kerns and reset Vertical Kerning to zero or go Inkscape Preferences->System->Reset Preferences and restart Inkscape?
Would you be okay sharing a minimal SVG file (so we can look at the SVG code)?
What version of Inkscape are you using (and what installation form is it? snap? appimage? pacman?) ? As you're a manjaro user, I'm assuming you have some (more than) basic OS skills. Can you try if the problem also occurs with a different version of Inkscape? You could use a different appimage if needed.
Well, I am afraid to say that I am not that experienced. I can share the file I am working with, no problem with that. I don't have snaps or flatpak installed (eventhough I have used them before), I just installed it from the manjaro add/remove software manager. My version of Inkscape is 1.1.1-5 (which I think is the last as I updated my system like 3/4 days ago, and by the way, I didn't have this issue before that). I will try perhaps installing a different version of Inskcape to see if I still have the same issue, the thing is that I don't know how to do it, but, I'll figure it out. I'll also try to remove manual kerns, and I tried to Reset the system preferences but that didn't work either.
I never install package from snap and flatpak like Miglix21. The previous version 1.1.1-3 run correctly. I testetd on another computer with Manjaro KDE. I posted on the forum of manjaro.fr a ticket. Another people has the same problem on manjaro KDE. I have no replyconcerning the other desktop environnement.
I´m not sure that is your bug report (https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/6112) - but it looks100% ok here aside we´re using different default fonts obviously, which always makes me doubt if the fonts are okay.
I never said that my Inkscape was intalled with snaps or flatpaks @Olivier LE BORGE . I said that I have used them before, when I started with Manjaro, and never used them again because I read that it makes your computer slower, ect.. I don't even have them in this system, I don't understand why do you have to do a comparison like that, and, I don't understand either how it helps to solve the problem. In my case it doesn't happen the same as @Polygon screenshoot. The fourth and fith line has the same separation.
Funny wise it looks crap in browser as displayed exactly at the left including font. Seems the Bug is closed due a new appimage built from what I read.
So the issue is that a library called Pango changed how it handles text. Older versions of Pango work fine, newer ones need an updated version of Inkscape.
Don't worry @Olivier, I thought you were saying something else. @JurgenG Than k you Jurgen for the solutions, I have not applied them, I'll see if it works out, and will update the post when I do it.

From my side, I applied your suggestion. The problem remains intact.

I am in the same version of inkscape 1.1.1-5. For memo :
Inkscape 1.1.1 (3bf5ae0d25, 2021-09-20, custom)
GLib version: 2.70.2
GTK version: 3.24.31
glibmm version: 2.66.2
gtkmm version: 3.24.5
libxml2 version: 2.9.12
libxslt version: 1.1.34

HarfBuzz version: 3.2.0

You are right, it is a known bug. It is fixed in 1.1.2 (so slightly newer than what you have). Look here:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/2864#note_732366466
So the issue is that a library called Pango changed how it handles text. Older versions of Pango work fine, newer ones need an updated version of Inkscape.
So there are a few possible solutions:
Dear Jurgen and Polygon,
Thank you for your message. I am going to wait a new package in my official repository.
Dear Miglix21,
My apologize concerning the subject concerning snap and flatpak, I meant that I am the same view like you!!
Don't worry @Olivier, I thought you were saying something else. @JurgenG Than k you Jurgen for the solutions, I have not applied them, I'll see if it works out, and will update the post when I do it.
