Beginners' Questions Linked Offset--Rounding Corners

Hi.  I'm using the linked offset feature, and what I'm finding is that it rounds all corners/angles.  Is this a bug or some setting I need to change?  Join and cap settings are not available in the Fill and Stroke panel for the offset.  I've attached an example of text that I have set to path.  (I've tried converting the text both ways--object to path and stroke to path before applying linked offset and it makes no difference with the offset.

No bug unfortunately. I always use a duplicate of the text object - go object to path - ungroup - Path combine - put it behind the main text object and give it a broad stroke to your liking. Once satisfied go Path-Stroke to path then Path->Union.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I use Inkscape to create files that I cut with electronic cutters, and I do use Stoke to Path and even Inset/Offset Halo at times.  However, I would love to be able to use the Linked offset feature for this purpose and save myself, quite a few steps.  I'm assuming that there is a setting somewhere that will adjust this.

The simple outset tool keeps corners sharp. (Linked/dynamic do not, it seems.)

Is it possible to suggest this for an update?
