I have create two square frames, each frame consists of two nested square which I have converted to an object. i want to partial over lap the two frames and then delete the lines where they intersect leaving an outline object consisting of the two frame. Hopefully the attached file helps

If kind of inter-weaving is your goal a simple manually drawing with enabled snapping seems the fastest/easiest way methinks:

    Cheers

I'm not sure what you want as it is sometimes difficult to visualize written descriptions. It is much easier to understand what is needed if you could provide a reference of what you want to make.

User PixelPest has drawn their understanding of your desired graphic, and below is my understanding of it.

Here are the steps of how to do it:-

      • Step 1: Draw a square with desired stroke and fill with temporary colour.
      • Step 2: Duplicate the square, make it smaller and change the fill colour to another fill colour.
      • Step 3: Align the squares to have the smaller square on top of and in the centre of the bigger square.
      • Step 4: Select both squares and select Path -> Object to Path.
      • Step 5: Select both squares and select Path -> Difference, and you will get a smaller square cut out of a bigger square.
      • Step 6: Duplicate the hollow square and move the new square to overlap the way you want.
      • Step 7: Select both hollow squares and select Path -> Union.

You can change the fill colour (yellow in the example) to anything you want.

Lots of steps where it should be:

      1. draw square with thick stroke

      2. duplicate and move in place

      3. Combine

      4. Stroke-to-path - adjust fill or contour color or both

Due a bug "Stroke to Path" will end in a group of 2 path unfortunately
