Select the red strokes and go Path->Stroke to Path then Path->Union. That´s it, You can union or combine with the glasses but the glasses shape but keep in mind you can just have one "style" per object - and it will carry the style from the top most object.
Select all and group - select Select tool - close the lock in the tool bar to resize proportional and type in your desired pix size. If it needs to be rendered as a bitmap icon you will need to invest more work to avoid as much anti aliasing as possible - but 16x16px is tiny. Speaking as an Icon forger.
After the image gets scaled to 16px I opened Document properties hit "Resize to content:" then set page size to 16x16px. Then I just aligned it via Align and Distribute properly.
It was al in the GIF: Select everything and "group". in the toolbar enable the lock for proportional scaling. Then type in at W: 16px, that will shrink the group. To pace is inside the 16x16px page find the Align and Distribute panel: "Relative to: Page", then hit "Center on vertical axis" and "Center on horizontal axis".
(Hopefully you can use it as SVG in your project. A 16x16px won´t be readable by that approach.)

So should I start from the beginning?
If not - how do I fix it?

Hi, ALL,
I downloaded an SVG from the Web added a cross in the top-left corner and now I'm trying to follow https://sendcutsend.com/blog/merging-and-welding-shapes-in-inkscape/#h-merging-shapes,
in order to have 1 shape instead of 3.
So I clicked on the "Edit Path By Node" tool, then I shift+clicked all 3 shapes and then chose "Path ->Ubion".
After doing tht I see only the original image - my added cross disappear.
What I did wrong?
Image is attached.
Thank you.
P.S.: If someone knows how to make that image smaller *16x16
Hi,
What I just did is:
I Shift-Selected both red lines and the went to "Path - Combine". Now it looks like I have a cross instead of 2 independent red lines.
Unfortunately doing the same trick with glasses and cross I have a whole picture painted "red".
And trying to do "Union" still makes the cross disappear.
And I'd like to have the image smaller.
Thank you.

Thx Polygon.
Do you know how I can make th image smaller?
Or maybe better to ask - place the image inside the document whose size is 16x16.
Right now as you can see the image is huge...
Thank you.

Polygon,
Can you make a short video explaining how to do it?
Its kind of hard to follow here what you are saying..
Thank you.
Here you go. Please download the gif as I will take it down for forum´s space reason.
Polygon,
Thank you.
I will grab it when I get home from work...
Polygon,
After you click on the lock and enter "16" in the text control, you click on the button on the top toolbar.
I unfortunately don't see a toolip - what this button called?
(I'm sorry - I don't have the same layout as you).
Thank you.

Polygon.
I don't have the "Resize to content" property.
In fact I don't even have "Display" page there...
Thank you.
P.S.: I have version 1.0.2 here.
The button is labelled "Resize page to drawing or selection", (ctrl+shift+R) in your screenshot.
@Polygon,
You can mark this thread solved and take the video down.
Thank you,
@Polygon.
I'm sorry to bother you again.
PLease check the screenshot attached.
I presu,e that the small rectangle in the top left corner is the actual document.
An since the drawing is outside the document - nothing is saved.
How do I place the drawing inside the document?
Thank you.

@Polygon,
I sure can.
All other SVGs I made are 16x16 px and they are nicely displayed in my toolbars.
However in InkScape they are displayed as big documents.
Please check the attachments...
That´s the advantage and reason for Scaleable Vector Graphics. Go Edit->Make a bitmap copy to see what it will look when rasterized at that scale. ;-)

We are going around in circles. How many times do I have to repeat myself?
