Hi I am new to this forum and this is my first issue.

I am using Inkscape to create my own digital sewing patterns.  As this is a learning curve for me, I will try to explain as best I can with screen shots as to what I would like to do.  I know that it is possible in Illustrator however this is a very expensive option.

Any assistance in this matter would greatly help.  Are there other users who are using Inkscape for drafting patterns.  thanks

    See below

All the techniques show in the video are common in Inkscape, and proficiency can only come with practice. The tools will have different names and the processes may differ slightly from Ai.

I'd start by stepping though the tutorials in Inkscape's help menu.

Concepts show in the video include:

    • Snapping
    • Straight lines (Bezier pen)
    • Grouping/ungrouping
    • Transforms (move, rotate, scale, etc.)
    • Path operations: (Cut, Union, Division, Difference, etc)

People are here to help along the way.

Making my own sewing patterns too and using only free software (Inkscape and LibreOffice for that), yes you can do that with Inkscape and I agree with Tyler Durden on the basic features you need. The labelling options may be useful too.

Insckape is a wonderful software. No doubt you will find everything you need and even have some pleasure to play with.
