just trying the tutorials I noticed that a layer gets locked while editing the label of an object in the layer window. When I double click on a label the field changes to editable with all characters selected. Now the strange behavior comes if I do a third click to position the cursor. While clicking inside the text everything works as expected but clicking at the end of the text (last character) the lock symbol of the layer is toggled with every click.
ok, the new version is reacting a little bit different.
Seems it needs a 4th click now.
Also depending on where you click you get different reactions. As if the clicks. in the edit field would get through down to the underlying Layer window.
So depending where you click you can toggle either Layer, or Type, or open up the color window.
Maybe the message handling of the edit field need a review?

I would try the latest Inkscape 1.1.1 (3bf5ae0d25, 2021-09-20). Uninstall first.
