Beginners' Questions Changing Stroke Style/Colour
  1. #1

I'm creating an online sewing pattern and I'd initially chosen different stroke styles ie. dashes and dots to indicate the different sizes.

In order to change the dots and dashes to colours I found I had to choose Path > Stroke to Path, which worked fine for the whole set of 4 Backs [on the left].

It has also worked fine for the Fronts except for the size indicated with the dotted lines. I was able to change the colour but have no luck changing the stroke style from the dots to a straight line.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?!

You can't change it back to a line, because using Stroke to Path, you have turned the stroke (or dotted or dashed line) into a filled path.  Use the Node tool to inspect it (before and after using Stroke to Path), to understand better what happens.

And if we're talking about the stroke which is the cutting line for the clothing pattern, essentially you have created 2 cutting lines - on the inside and outside of the original line.  So that would not work at all in that case.

You don't need to use Stroke to Path to change the color of a stroke.  You just need to select the stroked path, hold the Shift key, and click some color on the palette.  Or formally, you can use Object menu > Fill and Stroke > Stroke Paint tab.  Then click the Flat Color button which is a solid blue rectangle.  Then change whatever color it is to the color you want.

There are a few different ways to change the stroke color actually.  Another one, for example.  With the path selected, put your mouse over the Stroke color bar in the bottom-left corner of the window, and right-click.  There you'll see a couple of more options.
