I'm in the process of building a hydrogen generator and I need to drill 5 holes in a jar cap. The 4 main holes for the stainless steel rods need to be evenly spaced out on the jar's screw-on plastic cap. The cap in the picture has a rim on the inner side but my cap doesn't so it's a bit more difficult to align the holes. The 5th hole (for the gas outlet) is drilled right in the center.
I know you use the "Align & Distribute" for this but I'm new to Inkscape so I need someone to tell me how to do it. If you know of a video you could point me towards, then that would be great.
You need snapping and temporary construction lines. Use the rectangle tool [r] to draw a square [ctrl+drag]. Turn on [snap to cusp nodes], [snap to path intersections] and [snap to object midpoints]. Use the bezier tool [b] to draw the diagonals. Drag your circles into position with the select tool.
Thanks for your really super explanation of the problem I was having placing 4 circles in a jar lid. Pretty straightforward for all those Inkscape power users but for me at 80 and relatively new to the software it was hard to work out.
I liked your 'Gif', did you make these yourself?
Very easy for me to understand what to do about my problem.
I apologize for not including the key-press display, I got the sense that the issue was solved and offered some examples of how Inkscape provides a number of ways to reach a single goal.
No need to apologize at all. Yours was the best reply by a mile.
There's no chance of you seeing a mushroom cloud anytime soon as I made several of these generators (sold all of them on eBay) in the past without any problems. BOOM?

Time to put on your CAD hat.

Thanks all sorted.

I record my screen with Sharex.

Sidebar: Use caution when generating hydrogen. 💣
