I am a new user and I have just installed Inkscape 1.0 beta 1 on my macbook pro with macOS 10.15.1. The applications seems to work when creating new graphics, however when I try to open or import any of my existing files (e.g., .ai on Desktop), I get an error message "Could nor Read Contents of Desktop." Note that I have also installed XQuartz-2.7.11. Is this the correct version of Inkscape for my application or am I doing something wrong?
There's a thread in this forum somewhere that has a good reply with several options to fix this for the beta... Only I can't find it right now. So, this is the corresponding bug report:

Thanks, Maren. It looks as if they are onto this problem and may be close to a fix. I'll just wait until then.
It's fixed now. You can either grab the current development version, or wait until beta2, which will be released shortly.
