It is no longer necessary to remember to click on 'Export' in the PNG Export dialog, as the exporting will already happen after the click on 'Save' in the file selection dialog.
Does that mean when the export dialog is active, I can use Shift+S to start the export to png ?
I'm not sure about Shift + S. I don't think that's a standard keyboard shortcut? (At least, not in my installation).
In the current release, when you want to export a new file, you have to click on 'Export As' to choose the file path. Once you've done that, you then have to click Export to actually generate the PNG. The beta version removes one step from that. So, now you click 'Export As' and the file dialogue opens, allowing you to choose the location. When you click Save, it will automatically generate the PNG for you, without having to click Export afterwards.
I noticed also, in the keyboard shortcuts, there's a new 'Actions' section where you can create shortcuts for Exports. Haven't had the chance to play around with these, but I think there could be some time-saving options there.
Ok I just did a quick test. So if I just do png export in same manner than earlier (Ctrl+E and the export png appear), then the steps are pretty much the same as before.
If the file path/file name showing next to the 'Export As' button is correct, then you just press Export same as before.
If the file path is NOT correct, currently you have to navigate to the correct folder & press Save, then you need to hit the Export button (and I don't know how many times I've forgotten to hit Export, then wondered why my pic's not there!) With the beta, you don't need to press Export. It'll create the PNG when you hit Save.
It's a small thing, but it'll save a lot of frustration (for me, anyway!)
Ok, on W10 I experienced appcrash (Inkscape freezed for a couple of seconds and then just closed with no warning) and this version of Inkscape did not create a crash-dump-file (the file that I can go back and retrieve from work).
(not) Loosing work on this beta version 🤔
[edit]
I have to go back at this claim, because I now discovered that there was in fact saved a dump-file (no work lost after all). But it took a good while until I discovered that file, it may be caused by internet problems (my isp have had some problems today) combined with the fact the files is stored on a network server via vpn.
I've heard of people having issues with Inkscape using files on network servers, so that may not even be a beta issue. I'm glad you didn't lose any work, though.
I should probably reiterate that this is beta software and there is a higher chance of things breaking than there is with the stable version. It may be wise to use the beta only for testing and experimenting, rather than important work. If you set up the Autosave feature, you should probably be fairly safe, though.

Interesting.
There is one release note I have to admit I didn't right understand just by reading:

Sorry, meant to write Ctrl+S, my mistake 🤥
