I recently found something to make real round-dotted strokes in Inkscape. This trick uses the new Inkscape 1.2 custom dashes pattern feature.
To set a dashed stroke with some thing like that : - - - - pattern looks like this : 2 3 2 1 2 3 2 1 (2 plain, then 3 void, then 2 plain, then 1 void...)
So pattern is set by a succession of numbers... But these values don't need to be pure non-zero integers. You can for instance set a 2.5 for spacing. You can also put to 0 a plain part, which is pretty useless... Except if round caps are selected in options.
It that case, begin and ending caps will touch each other, resulting in a perfect succession of circles circle.
