You put a really nice tutorial together! Please accept my compliments. I've done a little bit of letter-print with Inkscape but I was just messing around. The technique you use is elegant and more flexible compared to what I had done.
One of my aims in sharing this material is for Inkscapers to consider even shadows - apart from their associated objects - can be intriguing and helpful in designs. And that like many other aspects within in Inkscape can be in tandem with other tools, filters, etc.
