I'm not sure if there was an update regarding exporting and importing PNGs. I'm having issues with PNGs importing and exporting.
When I export a design (e.g. a typed letter converted "object to path") to PNG, it's not entirely PNG. For example, when I import that exported PNG to a new document, the object imports as an image where I can't even edit the nodes or change the color. Instead, it ends up as a flat image where I can't do anything to it. And when I zoom in, the object is pixilated.... PNGs aren't supposed to pixilate when zooming in. In the "Objects" panel, the item is listed as "image" as opposed to "path" which is something I noticed too. It should be "path" and not "image" because it's a vector PNG now...
I'm so stumped and it's driving me nuts. Can anyone advise what's going on? Inkscape didn't use to do this to me a long time ago. Not sure why I'm getting pixilated PNGs and I'm exporting at 300 dpi.
To clarify, if you want to save your document as a vector format you need to use the File > Save As... or File > Save a Copy... menu entries. In the file selector dialog you can choose the format that will be used from a pop-up menu that includes many vector formats. Inkscape's native format is "Inkscape SVG" and it's recommended to always keep your main file in this format (as this is the only one that stores all the Inkscape metadata), then save a copy out into other formats as needed.

PNG is a raster image format and don´t include any vector data like PDF, EPS, PS or alike.
Yep... no such thing as a "vector png".
How do I export my design as a vector then if not in PNG format, since Inkscape can only export in PNG?
PDF for example or SVG?

Thank you so much you guys! I really appreciate it. You clarified my confusion. It makes sense now!
