Hi, I opened inkscape this morning and all of the menu fonts are in strange symbols. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it opened the same. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Not sure what's happened, but possibly the default system language has been changed? Perhaps it's looking for a non-Western alphabet and you don't have the required font installed.
If you go into Edit > Preferences, then click Interface from the list at the left. under 'Language' does it say System default' or something else? Try setting it to English, or whatever your preferred language is.
You could also try resetting your preferences, though this will lose any custom setup you have (I'd suggest making a copy of your preferences file before resetting, so that you can restore it if this doesn't fix the issue). You can reset via Edit > Preferences, then click System. There's a Reset Preferences button near the top, but it also shows the folder location for your current preferences to allow you to copy the file before resetting.
You'll need to close & restart Inkscape after making these changes.
Hope something here works, but if not, hopefully someone else will have some suggestions for you.

Thanks, that worked.
