I need to design an insert that is about 5.5 cm large with a 300 DPI resolution. The red "square" in the attached picture is 5.5 cm large

I want the image (with the box) to fit in the red square and be 300 DPI. Should I:

    1. Increase the size of my red box?
    2. Decrease the size of the picture (but won't I loose precious pixels that way)?
    3. Change the DPI of the page somewhere? <- I would prefer this solution

I don't know if this matters but I don't know yet if I'll send the svg or a png to the printing company

I'd welcome any type of answer (other than "I don't know")

I usually work in the units the print shop prefers and at 1:1 (full) scale. Page size and units are set in the Document Preferences.

I always submit a copy PDF... every print shop in the universe can manage a PDF.

DPI is mostly relevant if the work is exported as bitmap. The export dialog has settings for DPI.

Page size and units are set in the Document Preferences.

But not the DPI. So in my example, if I set the page size to 5.5 cm, my image will be much bigger. If I scale it, will it keep all its pixels when exporting?

When I export to pdf, the embedded image retains its pixels.
