Super new at this and I know there's an easy explanation!
I am having issues getting the union paths to work for me or atleast one of those.
Here's an example:
I am messing around with a circle and two lines, trying to create a split monograM. I selected my two lines and circle to merge together, went to Paths>Union. That didn't work. I've tried selecting different orders and using different paths.
Union might not be the best approach for this. Although to be honest, I'm not sure what a split monogram is. Could you either explain, or show an example of what you want to achieve by using Union?
If the attached is something like what you want, Martin's suggestion will work. Although I'll simplify it a bit.

What in the heck am I doing wrong?!
You need to cut the inner ring out of the outter ring first (use Path > Difference)
Only then should you add the inner bars using union.
Hi, Martin. My inner & outer ring is one element. I am not really understanding your tip.
Was I supposed to keep the rings as separate layers?
