I am unsure of how to combine several paths and hide portions of the path that are not visible on the original design. I know how to do it by hand but the actual design is much more complicated than the example below (fig.2 desired result). This will be plotted on a pen plotter and I want to preserve the look of the original design.

this is the desired result: the paths combined with Path>Union and the overlapping parts drawn in by hand in red.

Thanks for the response. This seems like a useful tool but it does not produce the desired result with rounded end cap or square end cap.
