If I copy the text and the associated paths, when I paste them back into the svg file, the text objects have wandered away from the controlling paths (see image 1). Is there a way to lock the position of the text objects to their controlling paths so this does not happen?
Also tried re-creating the text in a file of its own containing just the 2 text objects and their paths - saved the file with just the text objects visible (see image 2) and got a blank screen when I opened the resulting svg file in any browser. BTW: cannot convert text objects to paths - it makes the filesize HUGE - from 5Kb up to 24Kb.
This is getting troublesome... I'm up to 11 hours editing time now on something that should be DROP DEAD SIMPLE
Enough room for your font - but as I said when it´s not installed it will be replaced. I´m using an extra tool for optimizing file size as Tyler probably does. I don´t think - at least I´m not able to shrink it down to that kind of level with Inkscape alone.
@Polygon I'm using the fonts from within Inkscape - I'm assuming Inkscape is reading my Fonts folder in Windows 10 and allowing me to pick from there. I went to the Fonts folder just to check & "Calibri" is there.
Text (as opposed to paths) is generally like using linked objects. If the fonts don't exist on the host, they will not appear or be replaced by other fonts, leading to unpredictable results.
I'm only using Inkscape's save-as-optimized (which uses Scour, another piece of software) to get just below 15Kb. I'll try with Calibri and see how it goes.

Example svg files will help.
I can´t get it smaller than 4132Byte with editable text.
@Polygon 4132 is fine.
Here are the SVG files. I'm sorta new at this - maybe I'm doing something wrong...
If I save the vectors only file as an optimized svg, it goes down to around 12Kb, but 15Kb is OK if I can get the text working separately. Thanks
Have a look into the file:

Calibri, or Cambria...?
Thanks @TylerDurden
