i have a problem with text that i can't explain
but i cant't put word or sentence under each other 
like

Check up for a decent line spacing, perhaps it‘s set up to zero.

Check the icon where 2 „A“s vertically aligned; it´s set to „0“ as I guessed. Depending on the used unit change it perhaps to 64pt or 1 line etc.

I am getting a box instead of words. Is there something I need to change?

Check out the Fill and Stroke settings and/or Layer for any transparency/opacity settings.
