When trying to save an SVG, I notice there are quite a few options (or types of SVG).
I was wondering what type of SVG is the best to save as, especially if you wish to use the graphic outside Inkscape, since there is an option "Inkscape svg", and then there are others.
It is especially "Optimised SVG" that intrigues me, as that sounds and looks to me like a graphic of good quality.

However, the issue is, when I open the SVG in a program other than Inkscape, eg. Paint.net, I often get the message "File type not recognised" ( I am, as yet, too inexperienced to remember when that happens, hence my question).
All I basically want is to be able to open an SVG outside Inkscape so that I can check what it looks like in other programs.
I hope my (at some point probably very ignorant) post makes sense.

Is Paint.net not just for rasterΒ images (pixel based)? If you want to take Inkscape output to Paint.net export your drawing to PNG.
I have opened vector graphics in it, I don't remember whether it was native or with an extension, but Paint.net can open Vector Graphics.
Thank you for your comment anyway.

Seems you need a plug-in then.
SVG files open in most web-browsers, GIMP, LibreOffice, Affinity Designer, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator,Β OpenShot, Fusion360 and more.
OK, thank you.
