Right, I am new here, just found out about Inkscape, was looking to make logos and getting Affinity Designer but came here to Inkscape first since I believe it will be a better software. First thing is first, I was watching a tutorial by Logos By Nick here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cESqiwJcJ6Y He does this, put the circles in a middle and then intersects them for a shield. I have been successful at times but then here comes the next part. He adds a stroke, simple right? I can do that too. He then Strokes to Path. I did that but here is the issue. His shape, the middle goes white, mine stays the same, he then does the Break Apart thing and now he has two red shapes... I try to do that and it keeps saying "No paths te break apart are selected" or similar. And... I just do not know what to do. I sit here and I get mad at it and I keep trying again and again. It must be the most simplest thing but I just can't seem to do it....
Here is a video of me and the intersection problem... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXT6RQtJ67g Maybe it is to do with 1.0 and something or maybe I am just being silly. I do not know and I would love some help please.
That looks pretty frustrating. AFAICT you're doing the intersection operation just like NS does it in his video. And, it does work here in 0.92.2 and 1.0.
I can't see the status bar in the video to see the info, but that's always a good place to look for clues.
Can you share a couple of files that don't work? Maybe there is something to explore there.
I have done everything correct and as he does. The status bar at the bottom? When I do break apart as he does, my thing at the bottom says no path to be broken apart..... Can you please follow along the video and see if yours actually works?
When you say to share a couple of files that do not work. What do you mean? "I have literally head of inkscape two days ago"
I found that from when Nick draws out the shape (circle) from the beginning remove the fill just leaving you the stroke and continue following Nick's steps in the video and when you get to the part "break apart" even though there is no fill it will appear.
I noticed this as when I got to the same part and wouldn't break apart however would ungroup as this is 3 duplicates.
I am not sure why it works this way for me I think could to do with Layers (I'm a newbie) as I am using linux inkscape 1.0 although when I remove the fill there is a stroke even when you right click for stroke it doesn't unset in the bottom left corner.
I feel that this is not the right way as most people state that it works the way Nick performs that part in the video as seems like it draws out the process of making the logo.
Let me know if this way works for you or you have found another solution.
@SlySludge Yeah, to me, I overcame this by ungrouping and also getting 3 duplicates so you would have to delete one. I do find that the biggest shape is on top so you have to set that shape to the bottom. I am also a newbie too and with Inkscape and other Vector programs, it is basically a math puzzle for example to make a mountain, a square, 90 degrees and 2 more then intersected in order to make the snow.
All I am saying is that if it gets the same result in the end which it does. Then you've won and it works. However I do not know what you mean for right click? to unset, you shift and left click the bottom left corner, no?

Hello Tyler,

Here is a video where I followed him along to the break apart which did not work.

Yes, it works here.
If you got to the point of break-apart, the Path>Intersection operation worked, making the shield shape, yes?
If the status bar says "no path to break apart", most likely the Stroke-to-path operation did not happen. Ensure the stroke is applied to the object.
You can save the file at the point it doesn't work and share it here.
Right, did you see the video? And what are the steps for me to save the file and share it here?
I can't seem to share it here so I have put it on my google drive. Here is the link, I hope it helps?

This is the difference in behaviour between 0.92.5 and 1.0.

I am getting the same error but I tried ungrouping and got the effect NS was trying to achieve. However, I have noticed that it works with union
@SlySludge Thank you. I was having the same issues but the simple action of removing the fill solved it.😄
