All the online guides I can find insist that this is a straightforward set of procedures.
In a line of text I need to adjust the positionย of some characters. I can highlight a character to modify but the Horizontal kerning, Vertical kerning and Character rotation tools in the toolbar are greyed out (the Spacing between letters and Spacing between words are active). This is the case with all fonts I have tried, including System fonts.
What am I missing?
Windows 10, Inkscape 1.1.1 installed withย inkscape-1.1.1_2021-09-20_3bf5ae0d25-x64.msi

Text can be created by a simple click on the canvas before typing. This text can contain line returns and supports the letter kerning, rotate, etc.

Thanks for your time - apologies for taking it up.
