Beginners' Questions Selecting an object that is obscured together with "click selection again to toggle Scale/Rotation" Issue

    Hi There,

I'm new to Inkscape and this is my first post.

I have an object that I want to rotate and it's 100% obscured by another object. So I Alt-click to select it. And it says "Click selection again to toggle scale/rotation handles"
But I click again and it goes back to the higher z-order object that was obscuring it.

Is there a way to change to rotate mode from here using keyboard/mouse?

Or maybe a key to toggle between scale & rotation modes for the current selection? That's what I really hanker after I guess.

Currently, I have to do "weird" workarounds, such as:

    1. Change the z-order to access the obscured object.
    2. Select an object without issues in the "layers and objects dialog", setting that to rotate mode, then clicking on the object I want to rotate, again in the "layers and object dialog" rather than the canvas.

But I'm hoping there is a more straightforward way to do it with mouse/keyboard combo?

    Many Thanks!!

    Maybe like so:

yes, that looks good. I think you are using Shift+Rubber Banding to just select the obscured object? If so, I'm not sure that is working for me because I have "greedy" rubberbanding on and I can't remember where that setting is / how to turn it back to the default mode.

No special setting in the Node tool I used above. The Selection tool has options and work with "alt" as a modifier key:

[shift+s] changes the editing mode for the selected objects.

In object select mode, [Shift + S] will toggle the transform handles.

And how do make the object visible during rotation other than change view mode?

Thanks all. Shift+S is a game-changer for me!

And how do make the object visible during rotation other than change view mode?

It is clearly already visible... otherwise, how would we know it needs a transform?

Do you think I asked because I can see a thing under an opaque object?

    This is what I got:

For this kind of issues, I typically use outline mode (in view)

Not necessary when in "Node-mode" - but Tyler seems to have another solution without switching display modes. Iยดm curious.
