I am new to Inkscape, and I don´t have too much knowledge about graphics. I am just learning how to use Inkscape, and so I ran into many problems. So far I could handle everything via google research, but now, after I spent many hours of research without getting any results, I hope I can find some help here.
I created a little graphic which I want to save and use as .svg-file. Everything worked fine, and I got working results, until I decreased the size of the page, so that it fits the size of my object... When I save it to any .svg, it wont save the colors of the object. When I open the saved .svg-file with Inkscape, the object is there, but as I said, the color is missing. What am I doing wrong?
I also just tried opening the .svg in CorelDRAW and there I could only see the rectangle that I used for a mask. I think I am doing something really bad, don´t I?
I attached the file, just in case anyone needs it.
Hi. I'm new at this, too, so I can't help you. But I'm sure they'll respond and help you here. It's the Inkscape live chat. https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/inkscape_user I've opened your file and what I've seen is that you don't have any color applied to the fill or the stroke, so you can't see anything. I would send you the file back so you can see what I'm saying, but I don't know how to add files here. Sorry for the mistakes.
@TylerDurden No, it's in the objects in the file. It is a group of objects to which it has no fill or stroke color assigned. That's why he can' see them. It's not like the file is corrupt or anything. At least, I think so. Sorry for the mistakes.
I added colors to the Objects, and used a rectangle with a color gradient as a mask. Then I saved it to .svg and everything was fine, except that the page was too big. So I changed the size of the page to the size of the object, and now it doesn´t save the colors of the object. I already tried to leave the page a little bigger as the object, because I thought it couldn´t save it properly because it didn´t fit. But that doesn´t work as well. Only when the page is way bigger then the object, the color is saved. This is really strange to me, and I don´t know if it´s a bug in Inkscape, or a mistake from me. But I think it should be possible to have the page as big as the object, right?
I don´t get why the BeforResize.svg looks like that in your programm. When I open it, it looks like the screenshot I attached. Is this maybe a problem of the version of the programm? I am running the version 1.0 (4035a4fb49, 2020-05-01).
But yes, you are right, the mask is missing. I accidently attached an older version of the file. My bad..... Find the latest one (without resize) attached.
Hi. I just downloaded your file.I used an Inkscape option called resize page to drawing or selection (CTRL+SHIFT+R) . And it seems to have worked, the applied gradient doesn't seem be changed at all. That's what you wanted, right? The page with the same size as the drawing. Again, sorry for the mistakes, I use a translator.
So now I can save and load the file with Inkscape, which works perfectly fine. But I still cant see anything, when I open the file on other programms. I mean.... Internet Explorer is probably not the right tool to do this, but until now, it always worked fine..... I guess I will just try to implement the .svg in my coding project, and see if it works.
Well, as I was saying, I'm new to Inkscape too, and I can't help you much more. Keep in mind that you're working with a group of 56 objects and not just one object. The behavior of some tools in Inkscape can differ depending on whether you're working with individual objects or groups. I leave your file with a duplicate of the object, but ungrouped. I've put a background, just to make it look better. Anyway, I hope this doesn't confuse you even more.

Possibly, the button in the controls bar is set to not scale gradients with the object. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html#Attributes-Gradients
If this does not resolve the issue, please share the svg file that has the issue BEFORE resizing.
Thanks for your fast answer! <3
I tried turning the option off and on, both variants sadly did´nt work. I´ll attach the file before resizing.
There is no mask in the latest (BeforeResize.svg) so I can't tell what the issue might be.
In both files, I do see the arrangement of rhombi, and in Gutter.svg I see the effect of the gradient mask.
What is missing?
