i tried inkscape when the file zip folder i downloaded from here(never used seeklogo before so it could be virus ridden for all i know, but it claimed to have the file i wanted for download) (https://seeklogo.com/vector-logo/301040/amd-embedded-solutions-r-series-x ) and unzipped the AI file, wouldnt show anything but a white canvas upon loading in GIMP, obviously thinking GIMP was the issue... this is what i'm assuming it's supposed to look like(picture linked below)
yet when i open the AI file i was given with any free app i've tried, including inkscape, (opened on a portable USB based throwaway OS) this is what i see...(picture linked below)
any idea what's going on, or if the files are real on that site even? hell, i dont care if someone had to open it in illustrator(which i don't have, considering i NEVER generally work with AI files maybe once every ten years at the most, if not every 20 years) to get it to work, but i'd definitely love to have a large format PNG copy of that file(as well as another different file on that site, if i can figure the issue out)
sorry if this isn't the right spot for this, but i'm new to AI files in general, and by extension inkscape, which i only installed to try and load said files, so i wouldn't have to try coreldraw or adobe illustrator(and because gimp seemingly had the white canvas issue too, darnit(gimp is actually my favorite, sorry)) and well, i honestly don't know what kind of problems you can have working with AI files, since my BMP, PNG, and JPG files i use every day only have issues if something is broken, which for me, well, is usually never therefore, i don't know what to do...
I got access to a Adobe illustrator installation for a few minutes, and it does appear the AI files load perfectly fine in there, so considering I have no idea what the difference is between the apps or the same file extension moving between them all I can say is those files that I was looking at seem to load in Adobe illustrator but not here for whatever reason
So my main question, has been kind of rendered moot, although I would still like to know why in basically every app I've tried with the exception of Adobe illustrator it just shows a blank or white canvas. I am not about to "find"either a user that's probably not local, or some possibly legitimate possibly not legitimate download every 20 or so years when I need it... I definitely don't want to pay a subscription fee let alone back in the old days a few hundred bucks or whatever for a license key that I would only use on maybe one or two photos or illustrations over the entire lifetime that I live, and I would love to have this program be able to work around whatever the issue was, the real issue is that I don't know what the issue is therefore I can't fix the issue without knowing that information myself, that you guys are looking for

AIUI, Inkscape opens the PDF data embedded in ai files, provided the data is there. It might not be.
The groups all appear to have clipping elements, So I might ungroup or unclip the groups and see if there is useable content.
Feel free to share an example ai file.
