    Hi everyone!

I've just started using Inkscape and have drawn the attached book. My current problem is that I am not able to fill the sides of the book. I would be very thankful if you could have a look in the attached file. So far I was only able to fill the left side of the book.

Can you please explain me how to achieve this?

Thank you very much in advance.

I see what you are saying, but it is not clear if you have the paths asย "Object to Path"ย "Stroke to Object".

    Hello Friedhelm,ย

I can see what you are trying to do. If you want to fill in a pure SVG image, then you need to have a closed path to set the fill on. Sometimes the SVG will try to guess and it happens anyway.

Its very hard to be efficient and enjoy making things with SVG unless you understand paths and nodes. It doesn't take long to learn. There are some nice tutorials under the help menu > tutorials.

    For your book I would use the select tool ( F1 or S key ) , the node tool ( F2 or N key ) and the join node ( shift + J ) and the break node ( shift + B ). Also break apart paths (Ctrl + shift + k )ย

After a while you get so used to using those combinations, that you can quickly break and rejoin paths to get what you want.ย

A Wolf is an artist, I'm not - but I have posted what I was able to do with your book quite quickly.

In my example I have made a new layer, with another book above the original . I changed the join and cap setting on some of the shapes, because if they are separate shapes / not joined they can have angles which stick out.ย

It's not a perfect example but you get the idea. You can adjust the fills and gradients as you see fit.

@Friedhelm2021, Inkscape has many options for coloring/filling, depending on the style of illustration you want.

Please describe any technique you have used before in other media or software, or showย other examples of style you want to achieve.
