Beginners' Questions Problems when saving project as a pdf

    Hi all,

When I try and save this project as a pdf, for some reason one of the shapes I have drawn strangely changes colour slightly and the gradient disappears. I have tried redrawing the shape and editing to how I want again but the same problem occurs. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

It's hard to guess by looking at the screenshots.  Are you able to share the SVG file?

Oh, did you use the Gradient Mesh by any chance?  The PDF would not be able to display that.  In fact it would not even be converted to PDF.  It looks like a radial gradient might work there though?

Here is the SVG file. I used a linear gradient rather then the mesh.

Geez, it loooks just like all the other gradients.  I don't immediately see the problem.  What version of Inkscape are you using?

    Still examining the file....

Hhmm, it converts to PDF properly for me, with version 0.92.3.  I used PDF 1.4 and did not check to rasterize filter effects, in the Save As PDF dialog.

Honestly, the gradient looks absolutely identical to all the other gradients, except for the one endstop color.

Maybe someone else can spot something?

I'm using 1.0.0 beta which potentially may be the issue. i've tried with pdf 1.4 and 1.5 with the rasterization checked and unchecked. Maybe I should just try saving from a computer running a different version then?

Aaahh.  I have 1.0 beta1, so let me give that a try....

Hhmm, I have success with 1.0 beta1 on Windows.  (I mean success in the PDF, not success in reproducing the problem.)  Could be a different story with a different system than Windows.  Or possibly you already have 1.0 beta 2 ?

Or it's possible there's a problem there, and I just don't see it, and someone else might find it.

I'm not sure which beta I'm using, however I am using Mac not windows, this may be another cause of the issue?

Aah, Mac.  We need a Mac user for testing....

Ah I see, hopefully someone will be able to help. I can try saving a copy as a pdf tomorrow on a windows machine to see if that solves it

Best to collect all the info in an error report, with screenshots (of the pdf export dialog as well as those that you appended here), SVG file, and complete version info (see Help > About), and OS info.

It's clearly an error, remains to see under which circumstances it can be reproduced.

    Hi.

If you want a quick solution removing the transparencies from the gradients may help.

    Attaching an edited svg.

I'm having issues as well. Mind you I'm old(61) and used to use Corel 8 for years back in the day. Forgot most of it especially the more techy stuff. Here's what I get when saving to Adobe 6.0. Please see attachments. Thanks for any input.

Omegadog, can you explain the problem, as far as I can see the background is black, probably because it has been saved with a transparent background which pdf readers interpret as black ?

Thanks.  I'll mess with it again later and report back.

I tried to save the main page of [site removed by moderator] as a PDF and had problems too. It somehow arranges the images differently from the original site.

Ulf, I think omegadogs problem is a bit different. The pdf he attached seems to contain a encoded bitmap image, not vector data.

If you are trying to convert a webpage directly to PDF there are better options that Inkscape

Chrome browser has this ability built in.
